Where have you been?

Jun 06

For the foreseeable future Brock and I have decided to retire GoInnovate. As the lack of recent updates most clearly demonstrates we simply do not have the time to work on it. Our day jobs keep us plenty busy. During the time we worked on GoInnovate we learned a lot and enjoyed learning more about our customers and the SolidWorks community. It was fun while it lasted but now it’s time to close the book on that chapter. Maybe we’ll have the time and the engery needed to bring it back to life further on down the road, maybe not. But for now we just wanted to thank everyone for their support. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Sam Scholes

Monster or machine?

Oct 15

At first glance this machine looks like some sort of monster from a Transformers movie. In reality is the world’s largest digging machine built by Krupp of Germany. The machine took 5 years to design and manufacture at a cost of $100 million. It is nearly 2.5 football fields in length and weighs 45,500 tons. Amazing!

Chilean miners rescued

Oct 14

After being trapped underground for nearly 3 months, the Chilean miners have finally been rescued! No one in recorded history has ever survived so long trapped beneath the Earth. In fact, some of the miners may soon find their names in the Guinness Book of World Records.

But why am I mentioning this on a blog about engineering? Well, two SolidWorks customers, Schramm and Center Rock, both based in Pennsylvania, were involved in the rescue effort. Schramm, a manufacturer of drilling rigs help drill the tunnel that was used to reach the miners and Center Rock makes the pneumatic-driven drill heads that were used to chip away the rock. Pretty cool. SolidWorks to the rescue FTW!

iPad Adoption Rate Fastest Ever!

Oct 14

According to a new report from CNBC the Apple iPad is “the most quickly adopted non-phone electronic product” in history! It has outsold the previous record holder, DVD players, by millions of units. Pretty remarkable for a product many criticized when it was first released earlier this year.
